Premature Rupture of Membranes

Rupture of the amniotic membranes (“broken bag of water”) prior to 37 weeks gestation is an indication for admission to the hospital. Your obstetrician may consult the physicians at RPG to see you while you are in the hospital. They may perform ultrasounds to measure your baby, check the fluid level around the baby, and evaluate the baby’s well being. The doctors at RPG also may recommend early delivery of your baby if there are risks imposed by the ruptured membranes to you or your baby.
